January 20 Membership Meeting Highlights

First Presentation
The Five Drivers to Success
Presented by Donna Forgy, ProSkills, Inc.

Without a doubt, hard work and dedication in applying leadership principles truly separate the armatures and the professionals. But there are certain qualities for a leader’s success-that are inherent in the personality and work habits of top achievers. We will be discussing the following Drivers of Success and how they relate to your personal and professional success.

  • Self Confidence. In a world where risk, challenge, competition and change go hand-in-hand, self-confidence is the competitive edge.
  • People Skills/Communication Skills. By far the greatest single obstacle to communication and success is poor understanding of people.
  • Leadership Skills. Leadership is about influence and the ability to motivate and inspire people from a variety of backgrounds to a higher level of performance.
  • Worry and Stress. The ability to face a challenging situation with a constructive attitude is a determining success factor for all of us
  • Attitude Control. Not easy but as the saying goes, “If you can’t change the situation, change your attitude about it.
Donna Forgy

Donna Forgy is an experienced professional with over 25 years of experience in management, leadership training, and presentation development.

October 21 Membership Meeting Highlights

First Presentation
Thinking Locally and Globally in Organizational Leadership
Presented by Deborah Schroeder-Saulnier, D.Mgt.

Today it is essential that organizations operate both globally and locally; grow top-line and shrink bottom-line; focus on competition, yet also collaborate and change rapidly, while remaining stable and true to their core competencies. These inherent tensions, or polarities, are at play in every organization – both small and large.

Deborah Schroeder-Saulnier
In this presentation, you will learn how polarity management can help simplify the complexity without being simplistic, capitalize on diversity without alienating the diverse groups, provide predictability and stability amidst accelerating change, and convert resistance to change to a resource for sustainable, ongoing change-ability. Whereas problem solving addresses more simplistic issues in organizations, managing polarities addresses more complex issues.

Deborah Schroeder-Saulnier, D.Mgt. is SVP for Organization Consulting. She serves as the Practice Leader in the Midwest U.S. for the Global Develop Center of Excellence and is Subject Matter Expert for Leadership Development.

Second Presentation
Quality Through Movement
Presented by Chad Estes, ABMP GCFP

This presentation will introduce attendees to the benefits of enhancing human movement. Chad will present his work with movement and how and why it can make a company’s workforce more comfortable, productive and effective. Greater detail will be given to the possibilities and outcomes that result from this work, as well as speaking to the theories that comprise its’ foundation. Finally, there will be an opportunity for meeting attendees to experience the work first hand.

Chad Estes
Chad Estes is a certified Physical Educator, Anat Baniel Method and Feldenkrais Method practitioner, as well as a certified personal trainer. Chad has expertise in the treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders, ergonomics, and strength and conditioning. After-Dinner Presentation

Resilience for Individuals and Organizations
Presented by Joe Williams, President of Jordan Marketing, Ltd.

Resilience - the ability to bounce back from adversity and misfortune – is a critical attribute of successful individuals and organizations. Some people are able to overcome the most horrific personal tragedies and succeed against overwhelming odds. Others are devastated by relatively minor occurrences and never regain their composure. One company will weather the storm of disaster and emerge stronger than ever, while another firm facing the same challenges will collapse faster than a house of cards. How is it that some individuals and organizations are able to weather the storm and others are not? The reasons can be summarized in one word – resilience.

In this presentation, you’ll meet Joseph Lisle Williams who, at the age of twenty, was attacked by a grizzly bear while taking an evening hike through Glacier National Park. Through a terrifying forty-five minute ordeal, he drew upon his innate resilience to survive. Subsequently, he has continued to develop and enhance the skills that are critical to achieving individual and organizational resilience in the face of any crisis. He also stresses the importance of applying these principles to the minor irritations of everyday life – as a way to keep them from becoming major catastrophes. This presentation offers an engaging, humorous, and practical approach for understanding and developing this essential attribute.

Presentation Objectives:
  • Learn the seven components that make up the resilient character
  • Understand the need for resilience to deal with both crisis situations and daily challenges
  • Learn how to identify opportunities to build individual resiliency skills
  • Understand how to use resiliency to manage stressful situations
  • Learn how to build organizational resilience
About the Speaker
In addition to holding the distinction of being one of the few people who has actually been eaten by a bear, Joseph Williams is President of Jordan Marketing, Ltd, a St. Louis-based food brokerage firm. During his career as an executive in the food industry, Mr. Williams has held senior management positions with such firms as Banquet Foods, Con-Agra, and Golden Valley Microwave.
